How I stay on track (with projects, goals, life)

3 min

Whether you’re running your own business, juggling parenting and work, or just trying to get a handle on your time, here are three methods I rely on to keep myself on track.

1️⃣  Time management/scheduling system.

I’m always looking for ways to better schedule and prioritize my weeks. My little one went back to school yesterday, so for me, August becomes a natural time to take a step back and assess what’s working/what’s not, and recalibrate before going into the end of the year.

Starting this week, I’m trying a new system - The 3/3/3 Method. For each workday, I’ll set:

I’ll post more on my instagram (@jennybvcoaching) if you’re interested in hearing how it goes.

2️⃣  Set a monthly intention word (or phrase).

I officially started my business earlier this year, and (to use a popular analogy), it felt a bit like drinking from a fire hose.To help me zoom out and prioritize my time, I chose to set a monthly phrase as an intention for that month.

A few examples:
Month 1: “Open for business”
Month 2: “Book dream business”
Month 3: “Everything’s an opportunity”
…you get the idea.

Reading “open for business” on a paper stuck to the wall by my desk reminded me to keep putting myself out there. As a result, I made small tweaks to my posts and thus scheduled more calls with clients.

3️⃣  Monthly Review.

I meet monthly on Zoom with three other female entrepreneurs. We all have very different businesses but act as each other’s Advisory Boards. Our time together includes celebrating wins from the previous month, reflecting on where we got stuck in the weeds, setting goals for the next month, and then, my favorite part - each bringing one thing to the group where we’d like input and advice. It’s helped me immensely.

The lesson I've learned is not to get tied to a system that's not working for me. If it's not helping, on to the next!

I would love to hear from you on what systems have worked well for you. Do reply to this email and I’m happy to anonymously share so we all benefit.
